Young children with high levels of autistic traits may show some alterations in self-conscious emotions

A recent study explored how autistic traits in children are related to deficits in theory of mind and self-conscious emotions. The findings revealed that children with higher levels of autistic traits exhibited difficulties in understanding others’ mental states and predicting behaviors, and they were more likely to experience shame-like avoidance.
